Christmas Card Club - Lights

Good morning. This post should have been published yesterday, so let me get the apology for being a day late out of the way first! There's a wonderfully talented group of ladies who make Christmas cards all year long. I'm honored to be a part of this group where our lovely Asha selected the theme for this week as Lights. My original idea was to use a very pretty Memory Box candle die that I have. While looking through the dies for the candle set, I saw the die used in this card, and thought to make a card which I feel truly represents The Light  -- at Christmas, every day and for all time.

- Nativity Silhouette (4x4) by Cottage Cutz - blue lightweight glitter paper

- S/Binders Decorative Labels 8, gold lightweight glitter paper (which looks beige in the photo)

- Memory Box Parker Upper & Lower Alphabets sets*

- Bazzill navy blue texture top fold card base

The nativity die was a bit fiddly because I did not use wax paper or the metal shim and this particular paper is from a 6x6 DCWV pack of glitter paper. It has a sort of 'backing' on it, not thick at all, and I didn't think it would be a problem. When I used the S/B die, I did use the metal shim, gave a couple of passes, and the tiny bits came out quite nicely.

*These letters are a little too large for this card, so I will be looking for an alpha set that is a tad smaller. Appreciate any die suggestions you may have.

The weather has been quite nice in our area recently which we've enjoyed. We've also had some family medical appointments and been doing some 'house things' that seem to take up time. I hope you'll forgive me if I'm not posting frequently, but I'm still around-- just doing some things other than making cards or blogging. I expect it's probably much the same at your house too, if Springtime has arrived. I'll be here when I can, and when I can get MoJo working too. Maybe it's Spring Fever???

In the meantime I appreciate your visit today, and hope that your Monday will be productive, wonderful, relaxing, or whatever you may need it to be just at the moment. Hugs.

  2. Blogger is playing up again! Your card is not showing up in my blog list for some reason. Anyway I'm here now to see this beautiful card with the wonderful message!! I never seem to have success in die cutting glitter card, it always seems to come out "shiny " and lost the glittery-ness. Hope you are well. Hugs Christine xx

  13. That's a beautiful scene and the gold, glitter paper is fabulous. Aren't the alphabet sets wonderful so you can just spell out what you want?
We were in south GA over the weekend. It was beauitul weather. I didn't want to come home. Although, our weather has been great, too. So, tomorrow in the 50's after getting to 80 last week and a frost is coming, too. Probably the last one of the year. I sure hope so.

  14. A stunning card, Mary! I did notice you were not posting as often. I won't be on much myself for the next several days with spring cleaning, company, and Easter, so Happy Easter to you, if I don't see you again before then!! Hugs, Darnell

Glitter paper is a challenge. I like how it came out for you though. It really shows the glitter. Great Christmas card.

  17. A lovely card Mary and looks great with the gold and blue glitter paper. The S/B die is very pretty, it is one I have too and I love it. There are a lot of bloggers who have gone quiet at the moment, and as you say there are lots of things to catch up on now that the Spring has finally decided to make an appearance, and all of those things we have left for the better weather can now finally be tackled. Glad all is ok with you. x

  18. Oh Mary...I just love that nativity die...it is gorgeous. I do not have any suggestions for the alphas though...sorry!

Your card is wonderful and you are right...that truley is the "light of the world"!

My hip and back are much better now...that pain made me decide to get myself back on a healthier look at life...so it is off to aquafit 3 times a week and healthier recipes for supper. Heading out tomorrow with a friend to the local pool to pick up a monthly pass and then we are hitting the fruit and veg specialty store.

Think I will start pinning some healthy low cal meals!

  22. What a wonderful Nativity die! Lovin' all that sparkle! I think we're all enjoying the warmer weather. The pollen has been wicked here, but we've had heavy rain this morning and it looks like it's washed most of it off. Hope that's the end of it!

  23. Beautiful card Momma Mary! I am so loving that die of the Blessed Family scene. Your SB is gorgeous too, I love the glitter papers you used and yes, this card truly represents "the lights" all year long! I wish I knew of some small alpha dies, but I don't know of any. I'm not posting as much right now either. One reason is that it is spring and another reason is Easter. We do what we can, but life does get in the way of our crafty time at times and spring is certainly one of those times. We have had nice weather too so it was out in the yard for some clean up from the long hard winter. But I guess that old man winter isn't quite done with all of us yet, we have snow in the forecast tonight. Nothing earth shattering but could be slippy tomorrow morning! *sigh* Hugs
